GOTS-Richtlinien (Global Organic Textile Standards).
English :
Cotton is by far the most important textile raw materials in the world.
Conventionally grown cotton is one of the most heavily treated with pesticides crops.
Cons: Artificial irrigation, use of pesticides, defoliants , insecticides and other environmental toxins
Follow : great environmental damage and the depletion of natural resources. In addition, the high use of chemicals costs many cotton workers their health.
Further processing: " grafting" ( Chemical additives ) change the cotton so that they crease , mothproof , anti-bacterial and is easy to iron , " lily-white " can be very environmentally harmful
chlorine bleach less enters and absorb less dirt and moisture.
At coloring also many environmental and hazardous substances are used , which can cause allergies , eczema etc. .
From the original skin-friendly fabric that is a garment created by a variety of chemical additives , the more harm the skin.
Organic cotton ! In order to improve these pressures, as well as the associated working conditions in the growing countries , and not least of clothing manufacture that do the skin well , certified
cotton for many years in the Textile Industry from controlled biological cultivation ( organic ) used . The independent and internationally recognized inspection organization CONTROL UNION
CERTIFICATION BV (formerly SKAL ) monitors all stages of textile production from the growing of cotton to the finished product . The production takes place according to GOTS standards ( Global
Organic Textile Standards ) .
Cultivation: no pesticides , insecticides and fertilizers . Every 2-3 years there is a crop rotation, fertilization is only natural fertilizers . To weed and pest control biological methods are used
exclusively . There are no defoliant used, the cotton is picked by hand . Thus, the ecological balance in the growing areas is obtained , soil, air and water are not contaminated with harmful
substances , and the health of cotton workers is not damaged.
When processing the cotton does not use chemical additives. There are no or similar equipment, such as formaldehyde , antistatic agents, moth-proofing agents, flame retardants be used.
The textiles are printed or dyed with environmentally friendly , low-emission synthetic dyes. ( Plant colors are unfortunately due to their poor adhesion to textiles no alternative. Moreover, even
environmentalists doubt that the massive use of vegetable dyes would be an ecological alternative , an example is the color indigo blue , causes the waste water problems. )
On staining , no optical brighteners, no heavy metals and chlorine bleach can be used. Prints are water-based . White products are oxygen bleached . Some items are completely unstained.
Accessories such as Buttons are made from natural materials (wood , mother of pearl or coconut ) , zippers with nickel-free metal. For sewing just cotton yarns are used , but these are mercerized due
to the higher tensile strength.
The control organization CONTROL UNION CERTIFICATION BV monitored regularly both for cotton production, and the production processes , the end product and not least the social conditions at the
production ( z.Bsp.in Istanbul and Izmir) .
European standards : There are works , no child labor (minimum age of employees: 16 years) , minimum wage , maternity and sick pay payment etc.
